VESSELS from the Solent are among 46 crafts taking part in a special nautical challenge.
Ten ships from the south coast are taking part in the Falmouth to Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta for sail training vessels.
The regatta started in Falmouth yesterday, with crews gathering in the Cornish port for four days of activities.
The vessels will then set off in a race on August 31, which will finish on the Isle of Wight.
They will then cruise in company to London and are expected to arrive on September 5, before another four days of activities and events in the capital.
At least half of the crews on board the vessels will be under 25.
Among the vessels taking part will be the Hamble-based Thermopylae Clipper, Portsmouth-based Stavros S Niarchos, pictured above, and the pilot cutter Jolie Brise.
More than a third of those young people sailing will be members of the Gosport-based Association of Sail Training Organisations.
Association general manager Lucy Gross said: “With its high density of Sail Training organisations, the Solent is a global hub for these organisations.”
