MYSTERY surrounds how a man found lying in a pool of blood in a city street came by his injuries.
An investigation is underway today in a quiet residential street in Southampton after the injured man was discovered in the middle of a road.
A cordon has been put in place on a section of Andes Close in Ocean Village, Southampton, which is today the centre of a police investigation.
But it was unclear how the man came by his injuries. A dried pool of blood marks the spot where he was found.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called just after 2am after a man was found lying injured on the ground on Andes Close in Southampton.
"He was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
"His injuries are not thought to be serious.
"At this time it is unknown how these injuries were sustained."
One neighbour said he awoke to find the street taped off.
He said: "I think there was an affray, some sort of fight in the middle of the night. I don't know any more than that."
Anyone with information that may help police with their investigation into what has happened is asked to call Southampton Central CID on 101.
