RESIDENTS at a Winchester sheltered housing scheme have got the new year off to a flying start by raising £200 at an auction of unwanted Christmas presents for Naomi House children's hospice.
Bee Derrick, manager at Richard Moss House, came up with the idea and residents willingly handed over their surplus goodies, as well as their cash, for such a good cause.
Bee's husband Mike acted as auctioneer at the event, which was followed by a fish and chip lunch.
"Lots included champagne, whisky, wine, perfume, dolls, jewellery, jigsaw puzzles, antiques and bags," said Bee "although it was noticeable that nobody was willing to part with their boxes of chocolates and other Christmas sweets. I think my residents must all have a sweet tooth!"
Hilary Jukes is pictured accepting the cheque from Bee Derrick, standing back right, watched by residents.
