A HAMPSHIRE woman who successfully battled breast cancer is helping to organise a charity concert next month to say thank-you to those who helped her through her illness.

Jan Freeman, pictured, was diagnosed with the deadly disease in July last year, but thanks to prompt treatment from cancer experts at The Royal Hampshire County Hospital and respite care at a nursing home in Romsey she has now got the all clear.

It is actually the second time Jan and her husband Jules have organised a gig in Eastleigh, after first setting up an event five-years-ago when a close family member was diagnosed with the disease.

That event, which also saw the couple and their sick relative record a charity single, raised more than £2,250 for the Wessex Cancer Trust.

This time Jan, 54, and Jules say as well as Wessex, they will also be raising funds specifically for the Jane Scarth House in Romsey, which is run by Wessex, as a way of thanking staff at the house for helping Jan through her ordeal.

The pair are also planning on re-releasing the single Never Surrender', this time mixed in a house-style, at the event to try and bolster their fund-raising efforts.

Jan, of O'Connell Road in Eastleigh, said: "I'm now clear of the disease and it's my way of saying thanks.'' The gig will see four local bands take part, followed by a disco and a raffle - for which Jan is still looking for donations.

Among those taking part are Wild at Heart formed by Hedge End music supremo Barry Upton, who founded the pop group Steps. It takes place at the Eastleigh Railway Institute Club on February 10.
