GET on your walking shoes and help a Hampshire actress raise money for the hospital that helped her daughter in the weeks and months before she died.
This weekend is your chance to help Sarah Parish, who is looking for volunteers to join her in supporting Southampton General Hospital’s new paediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
The star, who lives in the Winchester area, has been supporting the hospital since her first child, Ella-Jayne died of a congenital heart disease six years ago.
Now Sarah is making a last ditch plea for more people to accompany her in a five kilometre family fun charity walk around Southampton Common tomorrow to keep the money rolling in.
Earlier this year the Atlantis actress and her husband Jim Murray set up the Murray Parish Trust and are aiming to raise £1 million to help equip the new unit, which is set to open in 2020.
Sarah said: “The new Southampton General Children’s Hospital will be very hi- tech and have everything under one roof.
“It will be a centre of excellence to rival Great Ormond Street [Hospital].
“The people who work in the current department are angels but the equipment is outdated.
“It’s important we give them the right facilities so they can do their jobs.
“Ever since Ella-Jayne died Jim and I have both felt that life can be terribly short.
“You can never know when something is going to be taken away from you, it makes you focus on what you can do right now.
“When it first happened we thought we’d never get over it – but the work we do in Ella-Jayne’s memory keeps her alive.”
The walk will start at 10am outside The Flats in The Avenue tomorrow and anyone that wants to take part can register and download a sponsorship form from themurrayparishtrust.com or sign up on the day.
