Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, who is from Eastleigh, is among the celebrity dancers hoping to impress judges in the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

BBC1 viewers tuned in last night to see Scott meet dance partner Joanne Clifton.

Joanne's brother, Kevin Clifton, will dance with Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge, the wife of former Saints star Wayne Bridge.

They joined 13 other celebrities in meeting their new dance partners on last night's show.

Joanne, 30, the current ballroom showdance world champion, is one of the three professionals making their debut this year. She joins Kevin, 31, who appeared for the first time in 2013.

Other celebrities taking part include Andy Murray’s mum Judy, singer Pixie Lott, Masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace, This Morning reporter Alison Hammond, EastEnders’ Jake Wood, Casualty actress Sunetra Sarker, TV wildlife expert Steve Backshall and Simon Webbe from band Blue.

Veteran presenter Sir Bruce Forsyth, 86, returned to the programme last night after announcing his departure from the show earlier this year. He officially handed over the reins to new co-presenter Claudia Winkleman who joins regular Tess Daly.

As reported by the Daily Echo, news that the 12th series of Strictly was returning to our screens was delivered by 19-year-old actor Tom Cawte from Bishop’s Waltham who plays the paperboy at the end of the new trailer.

Fans now have to wait until shows on September 26 and 27 to see each of the teams perform routines together when the series properly begins, giving them three weeks to rehearse.
