SAINTS' Premiership neighbours Pompey have put the boot in to plans to create a travellers' site in Southampton.
Residents battling the unpopular Stoneham Way proposal now find themselves fighting side-by-side with Portsmouth Football Club.
Bosses at the Fratton Park club refused to divulge their reasons for opposing the site but the site is just a David James goal kick from their training centre at Wellington Sports Ground.
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie voiced concerns about the plans for the one-acre site in a letter, which is being sent to Southampton council bosses. He wrote: "The proposed gypsy site in Stoneham Way has been brought to our attention.
"As you maybe aware the proposed site will be alongside our training ground at Wellington Sports Ground.
"On behalf of Portsmouth Football club we wish to object to this proposed site in the strongest possible manner."
Southampton City Council refused to comment saying it had not yet received the letter.
