THE day has been saved – thanks to some help from Daily Echo readers.
Dawn Knights now looks set to make it to her wedding on time – and in style – after a car enthusiast offered her transport for the big day.
As previously reported, Dawn had booked a Morris Minor convertible to take her to the register office in Bugle Street, Southampton – only for Avon Cottage Classic Wedding Cars to cancel four days before the wedding due to a breakdown.
After reading the story Bill Scholfield offered to help.
Mr Scholfield, of Woodlands, in the New Forest, said he would like to help the happy couple with a special ride in his pride and joy, a luxury vintage 1931 Lagonda, free of charge.
He said: “It was such a shame because it is such an important day for them. It is awful. I thought I am local to them and if can help local people I would do it for free. I am just a vintage car enthusiast.”
Dawn, 49, of Lauren Way, Totton, said she was delighted Mr Scholfield had come forward.
She added: “I was an absolute wreck over this and this very nice man has come forward.”
As reported by the Echo, Avon Cottage said their car was more than 50 years old and that sudden breakdowns were covered in the terms and conditions of the original agreement made nine months ago.
Dawn, a mental health worker, is due to marry Andy Clarke, 51, on Saturday after getting engaged while on a cruise on Adventure of the Seas last year.
The happy couple have been together since 1995.
