DRIVERS have been stuck in a car park for as long as 90 minutes as they try to head home from the city centre.
Queues of cars are building up in the West Quay multi-storey car park as shoppers try to leave the complex and make their way home.
Roadworks on Marine Parade mean that all drivers must head past the Carnival Building towards West Quay Road, rather than heading past the shopping centre itself.
Celeste Masters is one of those stuck in her car while her teenage daughter is at home.
“There's a shed load of cars stuck on the ramps. People are getting out of cars and stomping off. There's families with small kids in cars. People are not happy.
“We've been told it's the volume of traffic down at the roundabout.”
Others took to social media network Twitter to vent their frustration at the situation.
Jessica Mailey said: “The situation in West Quay car park right now is absolutely ridiculous. And they're dealing with it by handing out sweets.”
Ant Moran said: “Been sat in West Quay car park for over an hour waiting to get out!! No offer of advice or solution for angry motorists!!”
Joanna Steel added: "It's just taken my parents 90 minutes to get out of the multistorey, what's going on?" and Joanne Somerville said: “20 mins to move 10 feet in your car park is not the best advert for shopping at West Quay - stuck and nothing been done to sort!”
Celeste, from Rownhams, said it had taken her family an hour just to move down four floors.
She said: “I appreciate that there's a big event in town tonight but surely it must have been better thought out for a Saturday afternoon.
“We will get out eventually but there's nothing they can do about it.”
A WestQuay spokesperson said: "A number of factors including roadworks, bad weather and large volumes of shoppers visiting the centre today has unfortunately meant longer queues than usual leaving the multistorey car park.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our shoppers by delays and thank them for their continued patience."
