THEY marched after dark through Southampton streets.
The March on Cancer saw hundreds of people step out in a show of collective defiance against the disease.
As many as 500 marchers joined in, with their route beginning at Guildhall Square before heading along Above Bar Street, under the Bargate and into the Old Town before returning back to Guildhall Square.
People from across Hampshire joined in, displaying messages of defiance against the disease in memory and support of loved ones who have suffered.
Southampton’s event last night was held simultaneously with other cities across the UK, including London, Manchester and Portsmouth.
As many 500,000 people have already said they support the campaign, which is backed by celebrities such as Davina McCall, Alan Carr and Dr Christian Jessen.
This Friday will see a special TV show aired on Channel 4 to help raise even more money for Cancer Research UK, as they continue trying to find ways to combat various types of cancer.
