Council chiefs are looking at installing an energy centre at the home of Hampshire cricket.
Eastleigh Borough Council has been awarded £50,000 to go towards investigation into a potential district heating network based at the Ageas Bowl.
The facility at the West End site – which would provide low cost, low carbon, heating and electricity to several commercial sites including the Ageas Bowl stadium, Holiday Inn Express, Virgin Active Health Club and the new Hilton Hotel at the Ageas Bowl – is planned to open next year.
Council bosses say the move would improve air quality with less emissions and could later grow to include homes.
At this stage they cannot say whether the project would work from an existing or new building.
A feasibility study will be carried out and completed by spring 2015.
