AN INTREPID group is aiming to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness of ovarian cancer in memory of a Hampshire woman.
The tough challenge should also see them set a world record for the most women at the top of Kilimanjaro at one time.
The expedition will be raising money for KeySOC, a charity set up by Kevin Lees-Powell in memory of his wife, Christine. She died of ovarian cancer in September 2004, aged 49.
Kevin, of Brownhill Road, Chandler's Ford, and his daughter Libby are part of the group of 30 women and eight men hoping to reach Kilimanjaro's summit. The youngest taking part is 17 and the oldest is 63.
KeySOC was set up by Kevin, 52, and nurse Anne Clayton, also from Chandler's Ford, with the aim of raising awareness of the key symptoms of ovarian cancer.
The group, with people from Chandler's Ford, Southampton, Portsmouth and Guernsey, leaves for Africa on February 9 and returns ten days later. The trek up Kilimanjaro is expected to take them six days.
