CHILDREN from a Hampshire school met George Osborne personally delivered their letters to Downing Street.
Caroline Dinenage, conservative MP for Gosport, escorted students from her constituency at Peel Common Junior School to the Prime Minister’s home after they wrote a petition asking for further action on the Millenium Development Goals.
More than 50 pupils met Caroline for a tour through Parliament before delivering their letters, which were inspired by the book on international development Running Shoes by Frederick Lipp this term.
Each letter included a request of the Prime Minister to take further action and extend the impact of the goals, which include eradicating hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health and more.
Caroline said: “I always enjoy welcoming local school children to Parliament and was thrilled to help deliver their petition to 10 Downing Street.
“We were particularly lucky to bump into the Chancellor, George Osborne, while we were there. He stopped for a chat and answered some of the children’s questions.
She added: “I hope that today’s visit will have inspired some budding politicians of the future.”
