A DATE has been set for the re-opening of a Southampton bridge.
Central Bridge will re-open on November 14 after being closed for nine months as part of a £1.6 million pound project to replace a failing waterproof layer protecting the 130-year-old structure.
The project was due to be completed in September but engineers found it was in worse condition than originally thought.
The city council said the work has not gone over budget despite the extended closure.
Councillor Jacqui Rayment, Cabinet member for environment and transport said: “The essential work to preserve this historic bridge, which is a vital link into Southampton city centre, is nearing completion.
“We are improving and enhancing transport links into and around Southampton to support the future economic growth of our city.”
