WORK on a £70,000 flood defence scheme will begin in a village next week.
Workers will descend on Wallington, near Fareham, to try to stop further flooding in the area.
This comes after the village was hit by flooding in January – just over a year after residents were evacuated after heavy rain hit the area.
The work will include repairs to the banks of the Rive Wallington at the site opposite the White Horse pub.
Throughout the work carried out by Balfour Beatty, which will start on Monday and last until November 28, part of the footpath and a section of Broadcut car park will be closed.
Residents are asked to take extra care when using the footbridge across the river as equipment will be operating in the area.
