A CONCERT celebrating 35 years of Caribbean culture in Southampton is taking place tonight as part of Black History Month.
The Maka Foundation is holding a concert at the Cellar in West Marlands Road from 8pm to acknowledge the importance of reggae music in the history of the city.
Since the 1960s, West Indian communities, who were regularly denied entry to clubs in the city, organised illegal house parties known as “shebeens” with music played from large sound systems.
For more information about the event and for tickets contact the Cellar on 023 8071 0648.
