Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service launched its new three-month safety campaign as a way of making life safer for people aged 65 and over.
Area manager Stew Adamson said: "The simplest of safety precautions like a working smoke alarm can really make a huge difference on whether an older person lives or dies in a fire.
"If you smoke, live alone or have any physical or learning disabilities the risk of dying in a house fire increases dramatically."
