HAMPSHIRE GPs are to take part in a national data sharing project which aims to improve patient care.

West Hampshire Clinical Commissioning Group will be part of care.data, an NHS England scheme which will see coded medical details held by GPs brought together with hospital data recorded at the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).

But no names, addresses or notes from conversations with GPs will be included in the data.

The project is designed to help researchers study and improve issues like diagnoses, waiting times and patterns of illness and disease.

Data will be collected through letters, leaflets, emails and texts sent to patients by their surgeries.

West Hampshire CCG governs GP practices in Winchester, Eastleigh, Totton, Andover and parts of the New Forest.
