STUNNED neighbours have spoken of their shock after a young woman was stabbed in the early hours on a Southampton estate.
Detectives are investigating after the 23-year-old was attacked in the Millbrook area at 4.30am yesterday in what police are calling an “altercation”.
She suffered wounds to her arm and was treated by paramedics at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.
Officers have launched a probe into the incident which happened in Teme Crescent close to the junction with Windrush Road.
A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and is currently being treated for head injuries sustained in the incident.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital by ambulance with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
Yesterday neighbours were still trying to come to terms with the attack in an area they say is normally quiet and peaceful.
They looked on as police taped off a section of the road for several hours yesterday morning to conduct doorto- door enquiries.
David Bushard, 54, from Teme Crescent, said: “When something like this happens you think ‘wow – in my neighbourhood?’ “Yes we’ve had kids hanging around the shop in the past but we haven’t had any problems like this.”
One woman too frightened to give her name was on her way to church when she first spotted police guarding the scene.
She said: “It was all taped off and there were two police cars and officers.
“I’ve never known any trouble around here and I’ve walked past so many times.”
Another woman said: “It’s a shame because it is normally quiet around here and it’s a nice place to live.
“We’ve never had any problems before.”
A police spokeswoman said officers are continuing their investigations and urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Shirley CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
