TWO Hampshire police officers have missed out on a top bravery award after saving an elderly woman from an arson attack.
Sergeant Alyson West and PC Adrian Starr had been nominated for the Police Bravery Awards in London after rescuing Elizabeth Sanger-Davies from her home near Romsey last year.
With the 83-year-old stuck in an upstairs bedroom, the duo managed to put a ladder up and rescue her.
Mrs Sanger-Davies made a full recovery, but her pet dog died in the blaze.
This week investigators have offered a reward of up to £5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the attack.
At the awards, Sgt West and PC Starr lost out in the South East category to Essex officers PC Keith Lucas and PC Shane Robinson, who saved a suicidal man’s life.
