FAMILIES in need of a break will be able to access a support scheme in Hampshire.
A social care service is teaming up with the county council to provide short respite services.
The service will be provided by carers at Community Wessex, who are supported by charity Autism Wessex, in a bid to help families who need a break and offer them a buddy scheme.
Children and young adults from 8 to 19 will be able to access the service. People with health needs, a mental health illness, physical or learning disabilities and sensory impairments can also use the scheme.
It is an opportunity to give children and young people who need support an opportunity to have fun by going with their buddy for an hour session, which costs parents £5.
The session can be anything from a sports activity to seeing a film at the cinema. The buddies, or carers, will offer support and advice to help the children relax and enjoy themselves.
Jo Pattison, from Community Wessex, said: “We want families to be aware they can access our short break service for this reduced cost. “A break, however short, can be invaluable so we are encouraging families to get in touch with us so we can assess their needs.”
