A RESCUE drama is under way tonight after a search has been mounted for what is believed to be someone in a Hampshire river.
Solent coast guard has been called to help emergency services find what is believed to be a disabled person who has gone missing in Romsey.
A police helicopter has been in the air over the area tonight while officers conduct a search of the river Test after a wheelchair was found by the water at Mainstone near The Cromwell Arms.
Officers from Hampshire police were joined by fire fighters from Hampshire Fire Service along with paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service in a bid to "establish if there's anyone in the river".
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called out at 2123 to reports of a person in the water. We had an ambulance officer and hazardous area response team who are remaining on the scene."
People have posted on social networking sites to comment about the incident.
On Facebook, Stu Bee said: “Looks like they're looking for somone in the river as they're searching under the bridge.”
