IT'S been dubbed the Oscars of the South. More than 370 guests from the theatrical world came together at Southampton's St Mary's Stadium for the glittering Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards 2006.
The event celebrates the very best in local amateur dramatics and is a chance to get dressed up for the black tie dinner and dance.
A total of 33 winners in 31 categories took to the stage to be presented with their award and bubbly by special guest Syd Little, one half of popular comedy duo Little and Large.
Guests enjoyed a drinks reception, followed by a sumptuous three-course meal before the awards got under way.
Daily Echo editor Ian Murray and entertainments editor Lorelei Reddin hosted the evening, now in its eighth year.
Former soap star and chart-topper Craig McLachlan was rushed from The Mayflower theatre where he was appearing in Irving Berlin's White Christmas to surprise fans.
He presented members of the cast of Guards! Guards! by Waterside Theatre Company with the production of the year accolade before guests danced the night away.
The event was sponsored by Lite Relief, Southampton Football Club sponsored the drinks reception and Asda in Totton supplied all winners with a bottle of champagne. Programmes and tickets were printed by Kall Kwik.
