MORE than 100 Hampshire postal workers have walked out of work this morning as part of a 'wildcat' strike.

Around 150 staff are stood outside the Royal Mail site in Portsmouth after they claim a colleague was sacked over a disagreement with a manager.

Angry postmen have been stood outside the premises in Slindon Street since 7am this morning, and are asking bosses to review the incident.

As a result of the wildcat action Portsmouth has had no mail delivered today and representatives from the Communication Workers Union who represents postal workers are trying to thrash out a deal to resolve the issue.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "Royal Mail is disappointed at the unballoted action which took place this morning at Portsmouth Delivery Office in Slindon Street, which delivers to the PO1 - PO5 postcode areas.

“We apologise to customers for the disruption to their mail services and we are doing all we can to minimise this disruption.

“Royal Mail is fully committed to the process of trying to resolve concerns of postal workers based in Portsmouth by following the national jointly agreed framework with the Communication Workers Union (CWU).”
