A DRIVER who killed a Winchester woman in a hit-and-run collision on the Isle of Man was today (THURS) jailed for ten years and 72 days.
Donovan Kitching, 30, from the Isle of Man, had admitted causing the death by dangerous driving of Gwen Valentine, 62.
Ms Valentine, of Wavell Way, Stanmore, was struck by Kitching car as she walked on the Tholt-y-Will Road on April 26. She had been visiting family.
The mother of three had recently retired from IBM at Hursley and had been due to marry her fiancée on June 21. He and her son with with her when she was struck.
Members of her family were in court in the capital Douglas today to see Kitching jailed by Judge Alastair Montgomerie.
The judge told them: “No sentence can cure your anguish, no sympathy that I can express can alleviate your suffering.
“All I can hope is that to some degree the finalisation of these court proceedings can assist you in moving on with your lives.”
Kitching had also admitted driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance, and possession of amphetamine.
