A DEVELOPER has been forced to deny accusations that plans for a controversial 6,000-home town in Hampshire are unaffordable and undeliverable.
A public examination of the Welborne project, which would be built on land near Fareham, had its last day, today.
Hearings have focused on topics including traffic, infrastructure, flood risk and healthcare.
Discussion in the final session centred on risks to delivery, as well as land ownership and safeguarding.
David Walton, of Wallington Village Community Association, said: "Is there a risk register with regard to viability because I have not managed to find one.
"Today I have very little confidence as to whether this project is deliverable or affordable."
But John Adams of developers BST Warehouses Ltd said: "Considerable progress has been made this year with securing public-sector funding.
"The one thing that we can be certain about is that there will be changes in the economic climate and that there will be periods of low demand.
"What the joint developers take confidence from is that the underlying economical need for new homes in south Hampshire has been identified for well over a decade and has become more and more acute."
