FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a man from his burning home on the third floor of a block of flats.
Crews from Hightown Fire Station were called into action when a resident living in Wavell Road in Bitterne saw the fire alarm going off but was unable to rescue the person trapped.
Firefighters were quickly on the scene and gained entry into the burning third floor flat by using a ladder and then rescued the man and led him to safety.
The man then received treatment on the scene by paramedics from South Central Ambulance.
Two fire engines carrying eight fire-fighters attended the incident which happened at 1.43am this morning. They used two breathing apparatus, and a hose reel to tackle the fire.
The blaze is believed to have started in the kitchen on the oven hob.
