A week-long series of fundraising events to help children from some of the poorest parts of the world has been organised by youngsters from Southampton.
Members of the Southampton Muslim Youth Campaign began raising cash for Islamic Relief on Saturday with sponges and mops outside the Medina Mosque.
They held a car wash outside the Compton Walk mosque as they kick-started a series of events which includes a bake-off, a five-a-side football tournament and a FIFA video game competition.
On Wednesday, a women-only bake-off will be held at the Third Age Centre in Cranbury Avenue from 2pm to 5pm, with cakes auctioned off at the end.
A FIFA video game and pizza tournament will also be held there from 6pm.
Five-a-side football teams can also have a kick-around in a tournament at Mount Pleasant School on Saturday, November 1 from 2pm to 6pm.
The cost of entering is £50 per team and players must be over 18.
Organiser Husam Al Jabbar said: “The idea for charity week was started by universities and each year it has got bigger and bigger, but this is the first time the youth group has got involved.
“The money raised from charity week will go towards a specific pot with Islamic Relief which we’re yet to decide upon.”
