AN urban Hampshire village is set to grow even more.
Bargate Homes Ltd has put forward a scheme to build 39 homes on land between Cupernham Lane and the 800-home Abbotswood village development, just north of Romsey. The company says its scheme of mixed development southeast of Belbins Business Park and immediately west of Abbotswood will make what it describes as a “valuable contribution” towards Test Valley Borough Council’s housing supply deficit.
And Bargate Homes adds that the proposals also represent a “logical infill” development between the Abbotswood and the 64-home Oxlease Farm scheme off Cupernham Lane which was approved in July.
David Wilson Homes is already building 32 homes at Magnolia Walk on the fringes of the Abbotswood development off Sandy Lane.
Included in Bargate Homes plans for the 2.4hectare site is the demolition of a large two storey house known as Baroona and outbuildings. Proposed new homes include 15 four bedroom, 19 three bedroom and five two bedroom detached and semi-detached properties. Fifteen of the properties will in the affordable category. However, Romsey Extra Parish Council has raised concerns about the proposals and is objecting.
