Car parking fees generate a fifth of Winchester City Council’s revenue, new figures reveal.
Cash from parking fines and fees are its single biggest earner after council tax, which generates 22 per cent of income.
Cllr Stephen Godfrey, portfolio holder for finance, told a Cabinet meeting that parking now brings in over £6m a year, though charges have not increased.
The additional £275,000 raised last year has been earmarked for maintenance and investment in car parks.
