A HAMPSHIRE schoolgirl has set herself a fundraising mission to help people with cancer.
Jessica Gibbs has organised a charity event at the communal gardens of her Weston home to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The 11-year-old from Bacon Close was inspired to hold her own fundraiser after hearing about the charity on TV.
The Weston Park Primary schoolgirl has spent a month planning a song that she will perform along with her school friends including Abby Louise Allen, also 11, who also helped create posters for next Wednesday’s event.
Jessica has also planned children’s games and activities, a raffle and a drag queen competition, which will see local men battle it out to be named top entertainer.
The youngster has even come up with her own slogan: “Let’s donate, let’s take part, let’s make a change.”
Jessica said: “It was the fact that if I did it, maybe it will encourage other people to raise money too, then a lot more could be done to cure cancer.”
Her mum, Joanne and seven-year-old sister Abigail, will also be helping at her event. Joanne, 27, said: “I’m so proud of her.”
Jessica hopes to raise as much as possible at the event, which anyone can attend, at the communal gardens at Bacon Close, from 7pm to 8.30pm on November 5.
