You could tell it was Hallowe’en last night because Jamie T was frighteningly good.
The Wimbledon-born troubadour appeared at a sold out Southampton O2 Guildhall and didn’t disappoint with a rousing performance full of hits from his expanding catalogue.
The eagerly-awaited show sold out within days of its announcement and the historic venue was packed to the rafters, with some in ghoulish costume to mark the occasion.
Ferocious duo Slaves, consisting of Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent, provided support with a mesmerising performance of breathtaking punk.
But the night belonged to the headliner, who is enjoying a resurgence following the release of his third album Carry on the Grudge earlier this year.
Recent single Zombie – a fitting inclusion for the scariest night of the year – generated a massive reaction from the audience, with many already mastering the lyrics as they sang along at the top of their voices.
For the lucky audience, the 28-year-old threw in favourite If You Got The Money and Sticks ‘N’ Stones, proving the “one-man Arctic Monkey” is one of the best singer-songwriters and live performers of his generation.
It was 12 years to the night that I saw Queens of the Stone Age grace the Guildhall stage wearing Hallowe’en attire, and still remains one of my all-time favourite gigs.
But Jamie T’s spook-tacular set pushed it close.
