FRIGHT NIGHT in the ballroom lived up to its name for Hampshire's Strictly star after his Addams Family routine spooked the judges and saw him booted off the show.
Despite being praised by head judge Len Goodman for performing his best dance yet, Scott Mills last night became the fifth celebrity to leave BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing dressed as Uncle Fester the Radio 1 DJ, who grew up in Eastleigh, failed to win over the judges and the viewers with his foxtrot to the Addams Family theme tune.
Scott, who was the bookies favourite to go, faced TV presenter Alison Hammond, who performed an AMerican Smooth on Saturday night, in the dreaded dance-off.
Both couples performed their routines again and Craig Revel Horwood, Darcy Bussell and Bruno Tonioli chose to save Alison and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec.
Craig said: “I would like to save the couple that threw the kitchen sink at the routine - extra turns and all sorts of wafting. That is Alison and Aljaz.”
Darcey added: “The couple I would like to save is also because of its added flourishes in tonight's performance. That is Alison and Aljaz.”
However, head judge Len disagreed and said he would have opted to save Scott and his partner Joanne Clifton.
He said: “Had it been left to me, I thought they were both so much fun. They were both dancing the foxtrot so I went for the section which was the foxtrot and in that case, it would have been Scott that I would have saved.”
After being voted off Scott said: “It's something that I never thought I would do and I'm so glad that I said yes to it because it's been the most fun I've ever had.”
Referring to his dance partner, he said: “We've become friends so it's really sweet. It doesn't really end for me here because I'll still see her.”
Joanne added: “He's made my first experience of Strictly so special. He's the best partner I could have asked for.
“We've had so much fun and I'm just so proud of him. He's come from absolutely nowhere and I think loads of people at home can relate to him - he's got two left feet - but coming out in front of everybody and just performing in front of millions of people each week, I'm so proud of him.”
Watching Scott from the audience was his mum Sandra who, before the results were announced got the chance to confront Craig over his harsh comments to her son over the past six weeks.
She said: "Scott is trying really hard and I don't think your marks have reflected that."
Talking to host Zoe Ball she added: "He's [Scott] just really embraced it and he's just really enjoying it, working hard and I am a very proud mum watching him. It's great."
On Saturday night Len had praised the former Crestwood College pupil for performing what he believed was “probably Scott's best” however Bruno Tonioli was not so positive quipping “if the show was called Strictly No Dancing, you would be a sure-fire winner”.
Scott found himself second from bottom of the leaderboard with 21 points, just one point more than Judy Murray and her dance partner Anton du Beke.
Frankie, the wife of ex-Saint star Wayne Bridge, is still in the show after topping the leaderboard with her terrifyingly good tango to Wicked's Defying Gravit that saw her score a perfect 10 from Bruno.
