Some 4,000 young students descended upon the City Cruise Terminal to talk to industry experts at the annual Solent Skills Fest.

Associated British Ports (ABP) heavily support the event, providing the terminal as the venue for the sixth successive year, drafting in an extra 20 staff to work over the two days and running a pit stop for youngsters to find out about careers at the port, which supports 14,730 jobs nationally, including 10,590 in the Solent region.

Organised by Solent Education Business Partnership (EBP), the Solent Skills Fest gives students a chance to engage with the business community while they are still in school. 120 companies and organisations attended and offered students advice and inspiration for their future careers.

Pupils from schools and colleges all over the county were encouraged to take part in hands-on activities on offer including braiding hair, modeling marzipan pigs, climbing in snow ploughs and recording radio interviews.
