TRAFFIC is gridlocked at Southampton docks as holiday makers travel to the docks to board cruise ships.
Roadworks at Town Quay and heavy traffic have yet again meant that vehicles have come to a standstill on routes out of Dock Gate 4 Chaos has ensued inside the port as the Queen Mary 2 and the Aurora have docked at different terminals than originally advertised.
The Aurora was due to go to the Mayflower terminal and is at the Ocean terminal, while the Queen Mary 2, which was due to go to the Queen Elizabeth terminal is at the Mayflower terminal.
Taxis are waiting more than an hour to get in and out of the terminus while they drop off passengers setting off on their holiday.
One taxi driver, who wished to remain anonymous, said he was waiting for an hour to get out of the docks.
He said: “I dropped my customers off at 10.30am I left the docks an hour later. It's ridiculous.
“The road works around Town Quay are the major problem. It's the lights all around Town Quay that are causing the problems.
“It's taking an hour to get and an hour to get out. It makes me not want to down there.
“I moved three or four metres and then stopped. There was so much traffic going out of the docks. Three lanes merge into one, and the lights are not on green long enough.
“The traffic's not going to move off for a while, it's still gridlocked down there.”
A spokesman from Associated British Ports said everything is running as planned.
