An accountant has reached a 25-year milestone after he raised more than £50,000 for a Hampshire charity.
Bruce Elkins, from Totton, collected more than £2,000 from this year’s Prudential Ride London-Surrey bike ride to add to the total he has made over the last quarter of a century.
He was joined by Graham High and Neil Wilson to help the Southampton-based Rose Road Association, which supports disabled children from across the south and their families.
The trio fought through high winds and torrential rain to finish the 100-mile Prudential Classic in less than five hours, receiving their medals in front of Buckingham Palace.
Bruce, a partner at the Southampton office of UK accountancy firm Wilkins Kennedy, has a long history of fundraising.
His recent ride adds to his impressive 24th consecutive year of sporting challenges, during which time he has raised more than £225,000 for good causes.
Earlier this year, Bruce joined 20 others following a route across France from Ouistreham in the north to Port de Sete in the south, covering more than 800 miles in seven days.
Bruce said: “Cycling is a passion of mine and I love to keep fit, but there are plenty of less able people out there who are not as fortunate as I am. I have raised money for charity over a number of years and Rose Road does some fantastic work locally, so it was a good fit for me.
“To commemorate 25 years of sporting challenges, in 2015 I will aim to raise £25,000 for local charities. It will then be time to take a rest.”
