MEMBERS, pictured, of one of Southampton's oldest charities are asking people to don a woolly hat next week to support the world's seafarers.
The British and International Sailors' Society wants as many people as possible to wear woolly hats to work as part of its Woolly Hat Week. Established in 1818, the charity provides support and care to the world's seafarers.
Now in its second year, Woolly Hat Week aims to raise money for the donation-run charity, which is based at Southampton Seafarers' Centre in Queens Terrace.
Helen Alexander, of the BISS, said: "Woolly Hat Week is an event to raise the profile of, and money for, BISS.
"We really need supporters to put on woolly hats and get behind us to raise as much money as possible.
"Last year we gave out over 10,000 hats to sailors in the UK and around the world, but we're continually looking for more funding.
"Everyone can get involved in Woolly Hat Week - just wear a colourful hat into work and donate £1."
