A PROTEST concert against a controversial documentary being filmed in Southampton has been organised.
Students from the city's Academy of Music and Sound have arranged for bands from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds across Southampton to play at The Joiners Arms.
They have organised the event in protest against the Channel 4 TV show Immigration Street, which is a spin-off to the provocative show Benefit Street.
Filmed by Love Productions the show focuses on immigration in Southampton and those living in the Derby Road area.
Students from the St Mary's academy aim to promote the city's diverse communities and highlight fears about the show through the gig which is on December 20 in St Mary Street.
In a previous statement a spokeswoman for Channel 4 said: “Immigration Street does not purport to provide the definitive account of immigration in the UK - it will document life on a street in Southampton where the mix of residents has been transformed over time and continues to evolve as a result of immigration.”
She added all contributors had been briefed and had given their consent to appear.
