SHE’S the schoolgirl who gave up sweets and chocolates for a month – and now she’s celebrating the taste of success.

Big-hearted Bethan Richards resisted temptation for four weeks to help two-year-old James Mills who cannot walk and needs a £50,000 operation.

The seven-year-old vowed to help after hearing about the plight of the Hythe youngster, who has cerebral palsy and needs surgery to improve his mobility and volunteered to give up her favourite treats in return for donations.

Bethan’s month without treats has now come to an end – and raised at least £685 for James’s fundraising appeal which has topped £15,000 overall.

Mum Jo described her daughter as “amazing” and added: “She was so focused on what she wanted to achieve.

“Occasionally she’d forget and ask for a chocolate brownie but then I’d remind her and we’d both agree it was in a good cause.”
