TOASTING the success of students from City College Southampton was in full swing last night as a ceremony was staged to recognise achievement.
Outstanding academic achievements, selfless acts of kindness and a steely determination to be the best were all celebrated at the annual awards evening held at the college.
More than 30 students, largely 16 to 18-year-olds, were recognised but the night was also staged in celebration of achievement across the learning spectrum with adult learners and apprentices also collecting awards. Businesses from across the Solent region were also recognised for their dedication to the training and development of staff.
The awards evening celebrated the achievements throughout the past year of City College.
The highlights have included student success in a wide range of national and international competitions; working collaboratively with some of the region’s leading businesses, including Lovell, Oyster Yachts and Griffon Hoverwork, to offer high quality apprenticeships and developing a new partnership with the ABP Port of Southampton.
The college was also handpicked to offer University of Arts London (UAL) qualifications for the first time this year.
Reflecting on the success stories highlighted at the awards event City College principal Sarah Stannard said: “We are immensely proud of all our students and tonight proves that Southampton and the Solent area has many stars in its midst, who have gone the extra mile to succeed.
“Their determination, coupled by our support and guidance, has helped them to achieve their goals and given them a flying start to the rest of their lives.”
As usual the awards evening gave current students a chance to show off their skills to the audience as they were involved in the running of the event.
Media students took care of filming and technical theatre students ensured the stage was set.
Performing arts students read the award citations and performed to guests during the evening.
