SHE brought a whole new meaning to a girls’ night out.
TV star Davina McCall proved it’s never too early to party when disco fever swept through Southampton – in the middle of the afternoon.
The city’s Grand Harbour Hotel was the only place to be seen as 400 of Hampshire’s finest ladies turned out in force for the annual Dine with Davina event yesterday.

And there was plenty of sparkle and glamour as guests went the extra mile and pulled out all the stops for what is becoming one of the biggest social events in the society calendar.
Champagne corks popped and wine was flowing as the fundraiser, in aid of Action Medical Research, got underway with a welcome from Wave Fm DJ Steve Power.
The charity is close to Davina’s heart, helping fund vital research to help sick and disabled babies and children, including youngsters born prematurely.
The roof was raised with cheers, clapping and a lot of whoops as the former Big Brother host –- sporting a sleek black jumpsuit – made her grand entrance, having had five minutes to catch her breath following an epic photo session with each and every one of her guests.
Such is the success of the event, of which eight have now taken place, that organisers of the Southampton lunch had to lay on 100 extra seats.
Many of those attending are familiar faces, having attending several, if not all, of the previous seven dinners and had turned out once again for an afternoon of girlie fun that included an auction, goodie bags, a lot of singing and dancing – and a fair bit of giggling!
But there were a couple of emotional moments, most notably when Davina spoke of a “rollercoaster of a year” and got a little choked as she spoke of the death of her father-in-law “Pops” just days ago, having been diagnosed with a brain tumour a year ago.
Davina told the Daily Echo: “I was thinking of bringing my gran today but I’m not sure she could handle it. I’ve seen what can happen after a few hours here!
“We’ve tried this in other areas but it doesn’t work like it does here.
“The women of Southampton are raucous. The Southampton female massive are the most outrageous of anywhere in the country and that’s why we keep coming back.”
Davina, who was accompanied by dad Andrew, who lives in Gosport – which she affectionately calls “Gos-Vegas” – added: “We absolutely love it. There’s something about girls getting together which is really nice, harnessing female energy to do good.”
