THE bishops of Winchester and Southampton will commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War at services on Remembrance Sunday.

The Bishop of Winchester, the Rt Rev Tim Dakin, will attend the Remembrance Sunday service at Winchester Cathedral, after which he will join other local representatives when wreaths will be laid at Winchester’s war memorial.

Bishop Tim said: “On the centenary of the First World War we will remember those who died in this devastating conflict, in particular, the 459 people from Winchester who were killed.”

The Bishop of Southampton, the Rt Rev Jonathan Frost, will join Southampton’s Cenotaph ceremony.

Bishop Jonathan said: “We owe a great deal to the men and women who dedicate their lives to defending our country, sometimes paying the ultimate sacrifice.”

Services include: n Southampton city centre, 10.50am. A procession from the Art Gallery to the Cenotaph, led by the city maces and the mayor, before the laying of wreaths.

  • Winchester Cathedral, 10am. Service of Remembrance at the Cathedral with wreath laying at the War Memorial at 11am, following a two-minute silence.
  • Eastleigh, 10.15am. Parade from Mitchell Road, followed by a service at 11am at the War Memorial, Leigh Road Recreation Ground.
  • Lymington, 9.30am. Service at St Thomas’ Church, followed by two-minute silence at the War Memorial at 11am. The Christchurch and District Band will be playing for the parade.
  • Fareham, 10am. Service and wreath laying at the War Memorial.
  • Maybush, 10.45. Service and wreath laying, following two-minute silence at St Peter’s Church, Lockerley Crescent.
  • Fort Nelson, Fareham, 11am. Remembrance Day salute and gun firings provided by the 18-pounder drawn by six heavy horses.
  • Bishopstoke, 10.45am. St Mary’s Church Remembrance Day Service, which includes a two-minute silence at the War Memorial, next to Memorial Hall.
  • Fair Oak, 11am. Act of Remembrance Service in The Square.
  • West End, 10am. Service at St James’ Church, followed by wreath laying at the War Memorial at 11am.
  • Hedge End, 10.30am. The parade begins at the 2000 Centre car park in St John’s Road, followed by a service at the War Memorial at 11am.
  • Netley Abbey, 3pm. Remembrance Service at The Military Cemetery, Royal Victoria Country Park.
  • Milford on Sea, 3pm. Remembrance service and wreath laying at All Saints’ Church.
  • Sway, 9.30am. Service at St Luke’s Church, culminating at the War Memorial.
  • Brockenhurst, 9.30am. A Service of Remembrance at St Saviour’s Church followed by wreath laying at the War Memorial, Sway Road, at 11am.
  • Lyndhurst, noon. Service at St Michael’s Church.
  • Fawley, 2pm. Parade from The Falcon before a service at All Saints Church at 3pm.
  • Hythe, 9.55am. Remembrance Sunday Service at St John’s Church, followed by wreath laying in Prospect Place.
  • Copythorne, 9.30am. Parade from parish hall to St Mary’s Church for Remembrance Service at 10am.
  • Totton, 10am. Procession from Beau-mont Road to Totton War Memorial for Service of Remembrance and wreath laying.
  • North Baddesley, 9.30am. Remembrance Day Parade from All Saints Church, Rownhams Road, to the War Memorial at St John’s before service at 11am.
  • Romsey, 10.20am. Parade from Market Place through town to War Memorial Park for two-minute silence at 11am, followed by service at Romsey Abbey.
  • Alresford, 10.45am. Remembrance Service at St John the Baptist Church.
  • Fordingbridge, 9.45am. Remembrance parade, with Hyde Band, from War Memorial gates, Riverside Park, followed by service at St Mary’s Church at 10.50am.
  • Ringwood, 10.50am. Service at The Parish of Ringwood, followed by wreath laying at the War Memorial.
  • Portchester, 10am. Act of Remem-brance Service at St Mary’s Church.
  • Stubbington, 10.45am. Service and wreath laying at the War Memorial after a two-minute silence.
