SOUTHAMPTON'S annual firework spectacular will go ahead tonight, despite bad weather battering the South Coast.
Organisers say tonight's Mayflower Park extravaganza, which will feature a stunning display by British pyro-musical champions Pyrotex Fireworks, is going ahead as normal and that they are still expecting a bumper crowd.
The display will begin at 7.45pm, but there is lots on at the Daily Echo-backed event beforehand.
There is a funfair that will be running throughout the afternoon and evening, while musical acts are performing on the Wave 105 stage.
The event will raise thousands of pounds for local charities, and despite the wet weather organisers Southampton Round Table No 4 have urged people to come along and experience the fun alongside a crowd which may be more than 15,000 strong, with previous records for ticket sales smashed.
Chris Tahmasaby, from Southampton Round Table, said: “Come out, come in and enjoy it. Know your money is going to the right place and support us.
“Parking will be tricky so it is best to get there early and find a good space in town – public transport will be just as good.”
