Hampshire singers will be under the spotlight as part of a television documentary.

The West End Singers recently welcomed cameras to film a rehearsal as part of a programme on wealth.

To be screened on Channel 4 tonight, the one-off programme How Rich Are You? will look at money and inequality in different parts of the country.

Presented by Richard Bacon, it will investigate where people stand in terms of wealth in Britain and will feature experiments, interviews and contributions from leading experts and a live studio audience.

Alongside filming the choir working on its latest piece – Fix You by Coldplay – at the 2000 Centre in Hedge End, three members of the choir in their 70s and 80s also gave interviews.

The choir got involved as musical director Alex Silverman knows the show’s producer and they were looking for a choir to take part.

Mr Silverman said: “When the producers got in touch, I jumped at the chance – I thought it would be really exciting for the singers to perform on camera for the first time.

“It’s probably the biggest audience we have played to in 26 years.”

How Rich Are You? will be shown on Channel 4 at 8pm tonight.
