ONE PERSON has been seriously injured after a multi-car pile-up on a main road in Southampton this morning.
The four-vehicle collision happened at 11am in West End Road, Bitterne just outside Mersham Gardens.
It involved a Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio and a Mercedes-Benz and one other vehicle, according to police.
One person was trapped and cut free, while the other people involved are all 'conscious and breathing'.
Two fire engines were on the scene as well as two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle from South Central Ambulance Service.
One vehicle had its roof cut off to allow someone to be freed and the patient has been taken to Southampton General Hospital.
West End Road was closed for just over an hour-and-a-half, to traffic in both directions, with motorists being diverted along Maybray King Way.
It reopened at 12.40pm.
