FOLLOWING months of consultations the location of the new £150 million critical treatment hospital has now been confirmed.
The 24-hour consultant-led centre will be based at a green field site between Winchester and Basingstoke at North Waltham on the A30, near junction 7 of the M3.
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been in discussions with the Clinical Commissioning Group, road and air ambulance services and the Civil Aviation Authority.
Chief executive of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Mary Edwards, said it was the best solution to provide for the population which will serve from Eastleigh to Newbury, Andover to Hook.
“Our aim is to improve care and provide even safe services for the people across Hampshire,” she said. “To achieve this, our plan is to provide the majority of care for people in their local hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester while we create a new critical treatment hospital for the sickest patients, such as those with heart attacks and strokes and major trauma.”
The site will also have a specialist cancer centre, which will be connected to but separate from the main hospital, which the Trust is hoping to fundraise £5 million to build.
