MORE than 100 people have been vaccinated after an outbreak of a rare disease at Hampshire schools.
Public Health England is investigating a surge of Hepatitis A cases after seven people were diagnosed with the illness in Portsmouth.
It is understood Devonshire Infant School and Fernhurst Junior School have been affected.
The infection is not common in England and is usually picked up through travelling abroad.
Symptoms range from mild nausea and vomiting through to liver inflammation, jaundice and in some cases liver failure.
Around 150 vaccinations are being carried out although PHE said the risk of a spread of the infection at school was very low.
But parents have been advised to watch out for the signs and symptoms.
Dr Anand Fernandes, consultant in health protection at PHE Wessex, said the organisation was working closely with Portsmouth City Council and public health departments to manage the outbreak.
He also advised people to maintain good hand hygiene using soap and water after using the toilet or handling food.
