DESPITE the country being at war, this Southampton Pictorial photograph, published exactly 100 years ago, shows that life in the town carried on regardless.
This snapshot, taken in January 1915, shows Mr Will Murray, the manager of Southampton’s Palace Theatre, having an exercise ride in The Avenue, Southampton, accompanied by his daughter Kathleen.
The report from the time commented how Mr Murray’s daughter Kathleen was already quite an accomplished equestrienne, which was considered quite remarkable at the time, as the young girl had only taken to the saddle for the first time shortly before Christmas.
