VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help maintain standards of fairness, decency and care at Winchester Prison.
Its Independent Monitoring Board, which ensures inmates are treated fairly, is seeking new members willing to spend a few days a month at the Category B men’s facility in Romsey Road.
No specific qualifications or experience are required, although applicants need to have the ability to exercise sound, objective judgement.
They should also live within 20 miles of the prison.
IMB Winchester chairman John Tainton said: “We are looking for volunteers willing to provide three or four days a month to visit the prison on a rota basis, listening and talking to prisoners and staff and being familiar with all that happens ‘inside’.
The deadline for applications is March 1.
