ONLOOKERS who filmed the rescue of a little boy hit by a car in Hampshire have been slammed by his family.

An air ambulance was called after Clare Taylor’s son Lenny, six, was involved in an accident in Berry Way, Andover, on Monday afternoon.

He spent the week in hospital and had surgery on his broken leg.

While the family thanked residents for their help and concern, several onlookers filmed the minutes after the accident.

His sister Sky said she was “disgusted” by their actions.

But dozens of residents have offered their support.

Mum Clare said: “He is the apple of our eye and it’s so nice to see how much he is loved, thank you.”

Since the accident little Lenny has been treated in the children’s ward at Southampton General Hospital.

He spent more than two hours in surgery, with his leg flushed and two metal rods inserted to hold the bones in place.

Clare said: “I’m overwhelmed by people’s kindness.

“Our little man is hopefully on the mend now. He has had an operation on his leg as it was a nasty break.

“It’s been a very emotional few days and we are shattered but looking forward to getting home as soon as Lenny is feeling brighter.”

On the issue of onlookers filming Lenny’s rescue, his mum said: “Sky will never be comfortable about videos of her brother being taken as we were not sure if he would make it or how serious the injuries were.

“But I understand that it’s not often people see a helicopter rescue and were fascinated and maybe concerned too.”

The Daily Echo's sister paper, the Andover Advertiser, was inundated with messages of support for the family.

Irene Williams said: “I hope Lenny gets better soon – thank goodness for the wonderful air ambulance.

At least he received help at the scene, but it’s sad that some morons saw fit to film the incident.”

Kym Samways added: “Why the hell do people have to be so nosey to film everything? I hope the lad is okay and can come home soon.”

The family is now set to make a donation to the air ambulance to thank the service for its efforts.
